Annihilation of the wicked – Nile

Annihilation of the wicked (L’annientamento degli iniqui) è la traccia numero nove e quella che dà il nome al quarto album dei Nile, pubblicato il 23 maggio del 2005. Seker, meglio conosciuto con il nome di Sokar, è una divinità ctonia, protettrice della necropoli di Menfi. Il dio viene raffigurato come un uomo , fasciato di bende, con la testa di Falco. Per la sua funzione, molti lo hanno identificato con Osiride, dio degli inferi e dell’oltretomba, anche se quest’ultimo ha sembianze completamente differenti.

The dominion of Seker.
Barren desert of eternal night.
Shunned by Ra,
behind the gate,
Aha-Neteru,
the wastelands of Seker.

Eldest lord of impenetrable blackness.
Death god of Memphis.
He of the darkness and decay
of the tomb.
He of Rosetau,
the mouth of the passage
to the underworld.

Closely guarded by terrible serpents.
Who careth not
for his own cult
of worshippers.

Seker, ancient and dead.
Primeval master of the world below.
Remaineth unwitnessed, unseen.

Hidden in his secret chamber.
His primitive graven image,
like as a hawk-headed man.
Shrouded and swathed
in tomb wrappings.

Standing between a pair of wings,
which issue forth
from the back of a monstrous serpent,
having two heads,
having two necks,
and whose tail terminates
in a human skull.

In thick darkness,
amid violent tempests
of unendurable cacophony.
His serpents make offerings
unto his image,
and live upon their own fire.

His servants,
hideous reptiles of terrifying aspect,
whose work is nothing less
than the annihilation of the wicked.
Consume the bodies of the damned,
by flames of liquid fire,
they emit from their mouths.
And the goddess Quetet Tent
which liveth on the blood of the dead.

On their blocks,
they cut into pieces
the flesh of the dead,
singing hymns of torture and mutilation
to their master.

Accompanied by the wailings
and anguish of the damned,
they wreak destruction
upon the wicked.
Those who hath not recited the formula,
nor made the sacrifices,
or who know not the words of power.

Brullo deserto d’eterna notte.
Rigettato da Ra,
oltre i cancello,
Aha-Neteru,
le desolate lande of Seker.

Arcaico padrone d’impenetrabile tenebra.
Tombale dio di Menfi.
Signore dell’ombra e della putrefazione
della tomba.
Signore di Rosetau,
ingresso del passaggio
verso l’oltretomba.

Minuziosamente protetto da temibili serpenti.
Costui che non si cura
del suo stesso seguito
di fedeli.

Seker, antico e morto.
Primevo maestro degl’inferi.
Rimase in testimoniato, inosservato.

Celato nella sua segreta anticamera.
Il suo primitivo feticcio,
rassomigliante ad un uomo con la testa di falco.
Avvolto e fasciato
in bende funerarie.

S’erge tra un paio d’ali,
Che provengon innanzi
dal dorso d’un mostruoso serpente.
con due teste,
con due colli,
e la cui coda termina
in un teschio umano.

Nella spessa tenebra,
Fra violente bufere
d’insopportabile cacofonia.
Le sue serpi promulgano offerte
dinanzi la sua icona,
e sopravvivono sopra il loro stesso fuoco.

I suoi schiavi,
esecrabili rettili di terrificante aspetto,
il cui compito è niente meno
che l’annientamento degli iniqui.
Consumano i corpi dei dannati,
grazie alle fiamme di liquido fuoco,
ch’essi emetton dalle loro fauci.
E la dea Quetet Tent
che visse del sangue dei morti.

Sui loro altari,
essi riducon a pezzi
la carne dei morti,
intonando inni di tortura e mutilazione
verso il loro padrone.

Accompagnati dai lamenti
e dall’angoscia dei dannati,
essi arrecan distruzione
contro i malvagi.
Costoro che non hanno recitato la preghiera,
né hanno compiuto sacrifici,
o che non comprendono i verbi del potere.
