The day that the world breaks down (Il giorno in cui il mondo si distrugge) è la traccia che apre il nono album degli Ayreon, The Source, pubblicato il 28 aprile del 2017. Il brano vede la partecipazione di molti cantanti come James LaBrie, Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Tobias Sammet. La storia di ‘The Source’ è ambientata sei miliardi di anni nel passato relativo al Pianeta Terra. Essa inizia sul Pianeta Alpha, un mondo nella Galassia di Andromeda dove l’intelligenza artificiale ha oramai sorpassato quella umana. Alpha sta affrontando un’enorme crisi globale, con catastrofi ecologiche e politiche che minacciando tutta la vita umana. Gli Alphani (i nostri antenati umani) provano a salvare il pianeta affidando ad una macchina – Il ‘Frame – il compito di trovare una soluzione. Datogli il controllo totale del pianeta, il ‘Frame giunge alla logica conclusione che i suoi creatori sono la causa di tutti i problemi.
