Phase 1: The Singularity (Part I)
-8:49 this morning-
The dew of morning
still glistens on the salt grass,
that grows along the foundation
of the old lighthouse.
It isn’t in active service anymore,
but has been renovated
to serve as a private dwelling.
High in the tower inside,
a young man is slumped on the floor
in the corner of the room,
apparently in some kind of trance.
Somebody has put a blanked over him.
He is deadly pale,
but the steady,
almost imperceptible rise and fall of his chest,
shows that he still clings to life.
Standing next to him are
a young woman and an older man.
Both are obviously shocked and distressed.
Their frequent glances toward the door,
give the impression that they’re waiting,
for someone who is yet to arrive.
On the wall next to them
is a blackboard,
covered with impenetrable
mathematical equations.
The older man is holding
a crumpled piece of paper,
it appears to be a note scribbled
in haste by an unsteady hand.
What follows here is the story
of what happened…
Teacher:
Will we ever understand,
this complex genius,
this visionary thinker?
Will we ever get,
this close again?
Uniting the forces,
of our universe?
Girl:
Will we ever understand,
his isolation,
or his sense of wonder?
We will never get,
this close again?
It’s been too long,
I think he’s gone.
Prologo: la lavagna
Fase 1: La Singolarità (Parte I)
-8:49 di questa mattina-
La rugiada del mattino
brilla ancora sull’erba salmastra,
che cresce lungo le fondamenta
del vecchio faro.
Non è più in servizio,
ma è stato ristrutturato
per fungere da abitazione privata.
In alto nella torre, all’interno,
un giovane è accasciato sul pavimento
in un angolo della stanza,
apparentemente in una sorta di trance.
Qualcuno gli ha messo una coperta sopra
È mortalmente pallido,
ma il movimento regolare,
quasi impercettibile, del suo petto,
dimostra che è ancora aggrappato alla vita.
Accanto a lui ci sono
una giovane donna e un uomo più anziano.
ntrambi sono chiaramente sconvolti e angosciati
I loro frequenti sguardi verso la porta
danno l’impressione che stiano aspettando

ricoperta di equazioni
matematiche incomprensibili.
L’uomo più anziano tiene in mano
un foglio di carta sgualcito,
sembra essere un biglietto scarabocchiato
in fretta da una mano tremante.
Quello che segue è il racconto
di ciò che è accaduto…
Insegnante:
Riusciremo mai a comprendere,
questo genio complesso,
questo pensatore visionario?
Riusciremo mai ad avvicinarci,
di nuovo così tanto?
Unendo le forze,
del nostro universo?
Ragazza:
Riusciremo mai a capire,
il suo isolamento,
o il suo senso di meraviglia?
Non ci avvicineremo mai più,
così tanto?
È passato troppo tempo,
credo che se ne sia andato.

Phase 1: The Singularity (Part II)
-11 years earlier-
The Father, a brilliant scientist,
has devoted his life to finding
the Theory of Everything,
the equation that will fully explain,
and unite all physical forces of the universe.
He’s obsessively working day and night,
unaware that his wife
and introverted son,
need far more attention
that he has been giving them.
The Mother has always supported
her husband’s scientific pursuits,
but the strain of dealing
with their asocial child’s special needs,
has worn her down to the point of desperation.
Father:
I’m so close to the answer!
A dazzling symphony,
of cosmic strings.
I feel the pulse,
vibrating just out of reach.
The music of space!
One single master equation,
unification of the great and small.
I hear the notes,
but the arrangement is wrong.
I’m starting to doubt,
but I can’t give up now,
I’m so near…
Mother:
Can’t you see,
that I need you out here,
and what about our boy?
I think he’s got,
something to give.
What secrets lie,
beyond these hollow eyes?
Father:
I’m sorry,
you feel neglected.
But it’s clear,
that you don’t understand!
I’m aware,
and I want to be there.
I just need some more time,
for the answer is blindingly near.
Mother:
Are you trying to drive us away,
just when we need you most?
You might find,
he’s got something to give.
What secrets lie,
beyond these eyes?

Fase 1: La Singolarità (Parte II)
-11 anni prima-
Il padre, un brillante scienziato,
ha dedicato la sua vita alla ricerca
della Teoria del Tutto,
l’equazione che spiegherà completamente
e unirà tutte le forze fisiche dell’universo.
Lavora ossessivamente giorno e notte,
inconsapevole che sua moglie
e il figlio introverso
abbiano bisogno di molta più attenzione
di quanta lui abbia mai prestato loro.
La Madre ha sempre sostenuto
le ricerche scientifiche del marito,
ma lo stress di dover gestire
le esigenze particolari del loro figlio asociale,
l’ha logorata fino alla disperazione.
Padre:
Sono così vicino alla risposta!
Una sinfonia abbagliante,
di stringhe cosmiche.
Sento il battito,
che vibra appena fuori dalla mia portata.
La musica dello spazio!
Un’unica equazione fondamentale,
l’unificazione del grande e del piccolo.
Sento le note,
ma l’arrangiamento è sbagliato.
Comincio a dubitare,
ma non posso arrendermi ora,
ci sono così vicino…
Madre:
Non vedi,
che ho bisogno di te qui,
e che ne sarà del nostro ragazzo?
Penso che lui abbia,
qualcosa da offrire.
Quali segreti si nascondono,
dietro questi occhi vuoti?
Padre:
Mi dispiace,
che ti senta trascurata.
Ma è chiaro,
che tu non capisci!
Ne sono consapevole,
e voglio esserci.
Ho solo bisogno di un po’ più di tempo,
perché la risposta è incredibilmente vicina.
Madre:
Stai cercando di allontanarci,
proprio quando abbiamo più bisogno di te?
Potresti scoprire
che lui ha qualcosa da dare.
