Liberty spike – Protest the Hero

Formazione Protest the Hero (2026)

  • Rody Walker – voce
  • Tim MacMillar – chitarra

Liberty spike

News breaks like early morning
The sun cuts through the sky
Maybe it’s too early
To aid in the awakening
of my unconscious mind
And I know things move slow
But when time is
an ever-closing window
Look in
Reach out
It’s a little candle that can be snuffed out

At any moment
The moment’s gone
Life just keeps on moving on

A huge inferno
A glowing ember
And what remains is dirt
In which I dig my finger
And drew it slowly
To wipe away the hurt

A second song
For my first friend
Whose loss this time
Is permanent

I fell asleep first
When I wokе up
you were sleeping
I didn’t want to wake you up
What did you drеam of?
‘Cause never in my wildest dreams
could I imagine
You wouldn’t wake up

A chain that hangs down past your knee
And one around your neck
An XL kiosk tee
Probably NOFX
Green and tall were the liberty spikes
And I know you grew up
But for the rest of my life
I’ll picture you this way

I didn’t know you (anymore)
So what does it matter?
Why am I so angry?
Shouldn’t I feel sadder?
I didn’t know you
So what does it matter?
Why am I so angry?
Why am I so shattered?

At any moment
The moment’s gone
Life just keeps on moving on
Every moment’s wasted since this first began
I was never going to reach out
But now I never can

I fell asleep first
When I woke up you were sleeping
I didn’t want to wake you up
What did you dream of?
‘Cause never in my wildest dreams
could I imagine
You wouldn’t wake up

Wake up
I must be dreaming
It’s a nightmare
Please let me wake up
Wake up
Wake up
‘Cause never in my wildest dreams
could I imagine
You wouldn’t wake up

I swear to you that times are changing
I swear that you are too
I swear to you that I’m no different
This I swear to you
Now times are changing, but you remain
Static through it all
I wish I sent a message
or made a call
Your face was illuminated
by the soft glow on the screen
You’re staying up all night
While I was fast asleep

Hey brother I can help you
If you come to me
I love you more than anything
I have ever seen
These were the last words
that you said to me
These were the last words
that you wrote
I miss you more than anyone
I have ever known

(These were the last words
that you said to me)
Hey brother I can help you
(These were the last words
that you wrote)
If you come to me
(I miss you more than anyone)
Anything I have ever known

I always fell asleep first
When I woke up you were sleeping
I didn’t want to wake you up
What did you dream of?
‘Cause never in my wildest dreams
could I imagine
You wouldn’t wake up

Wake up
I must be dreaming
It’s a nightmare
Please let me wake up
Wake up
Wake up
Please, oh please wake up

You were so much braver and so much stronger
I wish that I could have held on longer
But I will light a torch in the dark
before the dawn
And I will think of you each time
I sing this song
If your memory is alive in me,
you’re never really

Le creste della libertà

Le notizie arrivano come il primo mattino
Il sole squarcia il cielo
Forse è troppo presto
Per aiutare il risveglio
del mio inconscio e
So che le cose procedono lentamente
Ma, quando il tempo è una finestra
che si chiude sempre di più,
Guarda dentro

In qualsiasi momento,
Il momento è passato
La vita continua semplicemente ad andare avanti

Un immenso inferno
Una brace incandescente e
Ciò che rimane è sporcizia
In cui affondo il dito e
La trascino lentamente
Per cancellare il dolore

Una seconda canzone
Per il mio primo amico
La cui perdita, questa volta,
È definitiva

Mi sono addormentato per primo
Quando mi sono svegliato,
tu stavi dormendo
Non volevo svegliarti
Cosa hai sognato?

So che sei cresciuto

Cosa hai sognato?
Perché, nemmeno nei miei sogni più folli,
avrei potuto immaginare che
Non ti saresti svegliato

Svegliati
Starò sognando
È un incubo
Ti prego, fammi svegliare
Svegliati
Svegliati
Perché, nemmeno nei miei sogni più folli,
avrei potuto immaginare che
Non ti saresti svegliato

Ti giuro che i tempi stanno cambiando
Ti giuro che anche tu stai cambiando
Ti giuro che non sono diverso
Questo te lo giuro
Adesso i tempi stanno cambiando, ma tu rimani
Immutato, nonostante tutto
Vorrei averti mandato un messaggio
o averti chiamato
Il tuo viso era illuminato
dalla luce soffusa dello schermo
Tu eri sveglio tutta la notte
Mentre io dormivo profondamente

Ehi fratello, posso aiutarti

Ehi fratello, posso aiutarti
(Queste sono state le ultime parole
che mi hai scritto)
Se vieni da me
(Mi manchi più di chiunque altro)
Di chiunque io abbia mai conosciuto

Mi addormentavo sempre per primo
Quando mi svegliavo, tu stavi dormendo
Non volevo svegliarti
Cosa hai sognato?
Perché, nemmeno nei miei sogni più sfrenati,
avrei potuto immaginare che
Non ti saresti più svegliato

Svegliati
Starò sognando
È un incubo
Ti prego, fammi svegliare
Svegliati
Svegliati
Ti prego, oh, ti prego, svegliati

Eri molto più coraggioso e molto più forte
Vorrei aver resistito più a lungo
Ma accenderò una torcia nel buio
prima dell’alba e
Penserò a te ogni volta
che canterò questa canzone
Se il tuo ricordo è vivo in me,
non te ne sei mai andato davvero
